Hello World!

First, an introduction. I am a long time programmer and math geek. About 14 years ago I received my first computer, at the age of 10. It was a magical experience, with all of the icons on the desktop that would open many mysterious applications, it was a magic act that I had to know the secret behind. So, when my dad decided to pay for dial-up internet I was able to ask the all-knowing internet for help, and I found programming languages.

Many sites advised Java as a good start because of its ease of understanding, while others like C++ were harder to learn but arguably more powerful. So I learned a little Java, and proceeded to go crazy with C++. Long story short, I learned through experience that its best to learn two or more programming languages simultaneously when first learning to program. It may sound daunting, but if you have a "hello world" application in two different languages you can compare the differences in syntax and learn much from them.

If you happen to be a young reader of this blog, and have a feeling of curiosity towards computers (especially software and applications) then learn some code! The sooner the better. Take advantage of the fluidity of your young brain and program some hello-worlds in different languages until you feel comfortable learning new languages. I am going to use this blog to post about random things in programming that I learn so I can spread the knowledge. I will end the first post to my first blog in the same fashion we all learn our first computer languages; "Hello world!".

C:

#include <stdio.h>
main()
{
     printf("Hello world!\n");
}

Actionscript 3:

package
{
    import flash.display.MovieClip;
    public class hello extends MovieClip
    {
        public function hello()
        {
            trace("Hello, world!\n");
        }
    }
}
